BBC Radio Leeds pair stunned by what they saw in Peterborough United vs Leeds United FA Cup tie – ‘How?’
BBC commentators Adam Pope and Jon Newsome were left shocked by a miss they saw from a Peterborough United player against Leeds United.
Peterborough midfielder Hector Kyprianou was guilty of missing a sitter during the first half of Sunday’s (7 January) FA Cup third-round tie at The Weston Homes Stadium.
Leeds were a goal up at the time and went on to double their advantage early in the second half, making the miss a pivotal moment in the contest.

Speaking on BBC Radio Leeds [7 January, 2:38pm], Pope said: “It’s dragged horribly wide by Hector Kyprianou.
“It’s an open goal for the midfielder. Kyprianou has knocked that wide, and I don’t know how he’s missed.”
Co-commentator Newsome added: “How? How has he missed, and why has the referee given a corner?”
Terrible
Leeds were on top against Peterborough, but the hosts had their moments in the first half and this was the best chance of the lot.
Kyprianou really should have been converting after being picked out by left-back Harrison Burrows, but thankfully for Leeds it went wide.

As Newsome pointed out, a goal-kick should have been awarded rather than corner, but maybe the referee was just shocked at the manner of the miss.
Had Kyprianou converted, it would have been an entirely different game. As it was, Patrick Bamford added to Ethan Ampadu’s first-half goal – the Welshman’s first for the club – to give Leeds some breathing space.
Unlike Kyprianou, fellow midfielder Ampadu did not struggle when presented with an opportunity as he got off the mark for the Whites. In many ways, that just simply shows the difference between a Championship and a League One club.
In other Leeds United news, a journalist sent a four-word message when asked if the Whites are interested in signing a Burnley player.
