Peter Drury blown away by what Patrick Bamford did vs Andorra

Peter Drury was impressed by one passage of play involving Leeds United attacker Patrick Bamford’s in England’s 3-0 win over Andorra.

In the 22nd minute, it appeared that Jesse Lingard had scored, but was judged to be offside by the slightest of margins.

During that attack, Bamford played a delicate flick into the stride of his teammate and Drury was waxing lyrical of the finesse behind that decision.

On the world feed for the game, Drury said, “That was immensely delicate from Patrick Bamford. A sweet touch to give England a great chance at doubling their lead.”

Not the ideal debut

Despite him playing a decent role in setting up a few chances, it wasn’t the performance one would’ve expected from Bamford.

He failed to offer the kind of threat a number nine would and seldom terrified the Andorra defence.

His movement in the final third was average at best and nothing close to the intricacy we’ve come to expect watching him week in and week out at Leeds United.

A number of his touches came close to the halfway line as he tried everything he could to be involved in some way or the other.

So much so, that he could only register 17 touches all game and have just one shot on target. [Sofascore]

These are early days in his England career but he will have to improve soon if he is to nail down a place, not in the starting eleven but at least in the matchday squad for Gareth Southgate.
