Peter Bankes told ‘you’re not god’ after what he did to Daniel Farke and Leeds United
Peter Bankes has been slammed for his decision to send off Daniel Farke following Leeds United’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester City.
Farke was dismissed for approaching the referee after the final whistle, as the Whites were edged out by Pep Guardiola’s side at Elland Road.
Antoine Semenyo scored the only goal of the game, sliding in to convert Rayan Ait-Nouri’s cross, late in the first half.
However, a number of questionable refereeing decisions that went against Leeds left Farke furious at full-time.
Daniel Farke fumes at refereeing decisions
Leeds pushed hard for an equaliser in the closing stages of the second half, but Man City held strong and secured the victory.
However, there were several decisions which went against the Whites, including a big shout for a penalty with just five minutes remaining.
Matheus Nunes looked to have handled the ball inside his own box, but there wasn’t even a VAR stoppage to check for an infringement.
Farke was also frustrated with Man City’s time-wasting techniques towards the end of the game, and remonstrated with referee Bankes after the full-time whistle.
Manchester United fan and YouTuber Mark Goldbridge was unimpressed with Bankes and the speed at which he dismissed the Leeds boss.
Goldbridge said: “The referee pulls out a red card before he (Farke) even gets there, and doesn’t make eye contact with him.
“Hold on a minute. You’re the man in the middle, you’re not god. You have made a big decision that is questionable. Who do you think you are?”

Leeds are not exempt of blame vs Man City
As well as feeling aggrieved by the officiating, Leeds also have to look at themselves for failing to get anything out of the game against Man City.
It was always going to be a difficult encounter for the West Yorkshire outfit, given that City are challenging for a Premier League title, but Farke’s side had chances to pick up at least a point.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin spurned a huge opportunity to put Leeds in front after just three minutes, firing wide from 10 yards out.
The Whites had 14 shots across the course of the evening, but only managed two on target.
With better finishing, there is no doubt that Leeds would’ve got something out of the game, which will give them great hope moving into some really winnable fixtures.
