Perry Groves believes Kalvin Phillips would be the ideal signing for Liverpool
TalkSPORT pundit Perry Groves was speaking on the Sports Bar on Monday night about Leeds United man Kalvin Phillips and why he would be perfect for Liverpool.
The 25-year-old midfielder was a star for England during the Euros, and it is clear that the former Arsenal man believes that he would fit in at Anfield.
Phillips still has just under three years left on his contract at Elland Road, and while Groves thinks that the Reds should sign him, he can’t see Leeds letting him go for less than £100million.
He said: “Kalvin Phillips fits Liverpool; he fits Liverpool perfectly.
“The energy they play with, the closing down, his athleticism, his passing range”.
Jason Cundy then asked Groves what he would cost, and Groves predicted: “£100[million].”
Could Liverpool sign Phillips?
The Reds have lost Georginio Wijnaldum on a free, and there are contract issues with Jordan Henderson, so they might be on the lookout for a replacement for either one of those at some point [The Athletic].
However, are Liverpool really going to spend £100million on Phillips? You would have to say at the moment, with the pandemic, that is unlikely.
Leeds United do not need to sell Phillips, and after his spectacular performances in the Euros, his price has probably gone up.
The 25-year-old was described as “outstanding” by Gareth Southgate and has grown so much as a player under Marcelo Bielsa [Evening Standard].
He is at his home town club, and Leeds are ambitious, so why would he want to go anywhere else at the moment?
Of course, he would fit in at Liverpool, but he is settled at Leeds and has a manager who has total faith in him at Elland Road, so we can’t see him leaving anytime soon unless a massive bid comes in.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites have made an offer for an English central midfielder.
