Perry Groves makes brutal Leeds comparison on TalkSPORT, Jason Cundy defends

Perry Groves has taken aim at Leeds United following Manchester United’s draw with Newcastle last night (December 27).

The game finished 1-1 at St. James’ Park thanks to goals from Edinson Cavani and Allan Saint-Maximin.

After the game, Jason Cundy jumped to the Whites’ defence after the brutal comparison of the poor display to Leeds.

They said on TalkSport: “I couldn’t see the way Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted the team to play, I couldn’t see the structure. And there was no structure to Manchester United there [against Newcastle].

“It wasn’t a lack of effort. It was a lack of cohesion, lack of structure. They wanted to press but it was like watching Leeds play at their worst.

Cundy interjected: “It was chaos out there. At least Leeds play with more structure.”

Arrogant

We can all admit that Leeds can be capable of a poor performance. It can be expected with the scintillating brand of football we play under Marcelo Bielsa.

Leeds fans can be critical of the team but for pundits to use the Whites as a benchmark for a poor performance is downright disrespectful.

Groves was definitely just trying to get a reaction out of an angered Leeds fan who’d been listening to their obscenity.

Leeds welcome Manchester United and Rangnick to Elland Road on February 19 and if they weren’t already the fans and players should be right up for this one.

The Whites have been going through a rut this season, suffering some terrible defeats along the way but it wasn’t long ago they were taking points from everyone in the league on their way to a ninth-place finish in their first season in the Premier League.

Maybe Bielsa and his team have to remind everyone what they are all about. Many will hope they do exactly that the next time they face Rangnick and Manchester United.
