Pedro Goncalves raves about Leeds-owned winger Helder Costa

Angola manager Pedro Goncalves has showered heaps of praise on Leeds United outcast Helder Costa.

The 27-year-old winger is currently on a season-long loan at Valencia, where he has established himself as a key player.

Costa dropped down the pecking order at Leeds behind Raphinha and Jack Harrison. Further, following the arrival of Daniel James, he was sent on loan to the Spanish club this summer.

Costa now plays for Angola, and his national team boss has praised him heavily. He is happy that Costa is enjoying his football at Los Che.

Goncalves has said that Costa is like Cristiano Ronaldo (five-time Champions League winner) for the team and that he is the star player for them. He has added that Costa is an idol for millions of people.

“Helder is now an idol for the people of Angola. For millions of Angolans around the world. I cannot offer him more,” said Goncalves, as quoted by Marca.

“Helder Costa, respecting everyone, if he can be like our Cristiano, he is our star. I am delighted with his behavior and attitude. He acts like one more and has adapted with personality and humanity.”

No future at Leeds?

The winger has spoken regularly in the Spanish media that he is happier in Spain than he was at Leeds, where he struggled to make a strong impact under Marcelo Bielsa.

He has a contract at Elland Road till 2024. However, it doesn’t seem like he will continue at Leeds next season.

Costa has struggled in the Premier League, and the Whites now have enough options in his position.

In fact, it will be best for him, if he continues at Valencia, where he is currently enjoying his football.

Costa showed sparks of brilliance last season for Leeds, but his biggest problem has been the lack of consistency.

It’s really good to see that he is getting lavish praise from his club manager as also from his national team manager.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites want to sign this box-to-box midfielder from a debt-ridden club in England.
