Derby boss Paul Warne shares ‘uncomfortable’ honest admission on Leeds United

Derby County boss Paul Warne has lauded the quality of the Leeds United side as his team were on the wrong end of a 2-0 scoreline on Saturday.

Leeds secured another three points on 7 December, courtesy of a 2-0 victory at Elland Road against a struggling Derby County side.

Austrian defender Max Wober was on the scoresheet for the Whites as they moved to the summit of the Championship, leaving Warne to make an “uncomfortable” admission after the encounter.

As quoted by Leeds Live reporter Beren Cross [7 December], the Derby boss said: “That’s the most unbalanced game we have played in.

“Even our fastest players could not get past theirs. That’s the most uncomfortable I have felt on the side of the pitch. A gulf in class.”

Leeds United impress against Derby County

Ultimately, the most important thing from Saturday’s encounter was the three points. That is what will get you promoted and the Whites achieved that.

As favourites heading into the game, full expectancy was on Leeds to win and that can often be the downfall of teams chasing promotion but it was a crucial three points.

Performances of course matter, but not more so than picking up regular points during the hectic Christmas schedule that is upon us.

The win sent Leeds back to the top of the Championship, albeit if Sheffield United avoid defeat on Sunday (8 December) that will again change.

January will provide an opportunity to further boost promotion hopes and work has already started behind the scenes with the signing of a number 10 identified as a key area to strengthen for Leeds.

As for now, Leeds must simply keep marching on and ensure that their performances are matched by positive results.
