Paul Robinson delivers verdict as Leeds United part ways with Marcelo Bielsa

Paul Robinson believes that Leeds United had to sack Marcelo Bielsa as the team appeared to be in disarray towards the end of his tenure.

The Whites conceded ten goals in two back-to-back defeats against Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

The writing looked to be on the wall for the Argentine, who was then quickly replaced by American coach Jesse Marsch.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Robinson said, “It would’ve been taken with a heavy heart. I think the man’s got plenty of respect and done so much for that club, it won’t have been an easy decision.

“It wasn’t the fact that they were losing games, it was how they were losing games.

“The organisation of the team looked to have gone and they looked to be in a little bit of disarray.”

Needed time

Bielsa got this club from a mid-table Championship one to one that finished in the top half of the Premier League.

He instilled a workmanlike ethos at Elland Road and had everyone in the dressing room and the staff buying into it.

He also shared a good relationship with the club hierarchy and everyone sang from the same hymn sheet.

However, the board thought that he could not get the club out of this relegation dogfight and decided to part ways with him.

There are no guarantees that Marsch comes in and suddenly waves his magic wand.

If anyone could turn things around, it would’ve been Bielsa so let’s hope that the American can do something similar.
