Paul Merson sends message to Ipswich & Leicester after what Leeds United did
Paul Merson has challenged Ipswich and Leicester to step up in the race for promotion in the Championship after Leeds United earned another win.
The Whites claimed a comfortable 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Friday night to move back into the automatic promotion places.
And Merson admitted he is expecting a “massive” day in the Championship as Ipswich travel to Cardiff and Leicester travel to Hull with both needing to pick up wins to keep the pressure on at the top of the table.
“Massive day in the Championship as well at both ends of the table,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account (9 March).
“Ipswich and Leicester facing tough games today both needing to pick up wins as Leeds are flying.”
Leeds United can’t do more
The Whites have been in absolutely sensational form in 2024 with 11 wins and a draw from their 12 Championship games so far, and their only defeat coming in injury time to Chelsea.
That has allowed them to really close the gap on Leicester at the top of the table and they’re now able to push for a potential title, rather than just competing for second place.
Daniel Farke has already navigated a stunning season for the Peacocks, and has taken maximum points from the two nearest challengers this season by beating both teams both home and away.
All Leeds can do at this point is continue to win games and doing their best, to ensure that any slip ups by Leicester, Ipswich and even Southampton are fully capitalised on.
If results go their way on Saturday it will make for an incredibly busy end to the season with every result meaning more and more, so it’s sure to be exciting.
