Paul Merson says Kalvin Phillips is a 'goner' if Leeds United relegated, '100%' won't join Man United

Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips is a ‘goner’ if the club get relegated from the Premier League this weekend, according to Paul Merson.

The Whites are heading into the final game of the Premier League season in the relegation zone on goal difference, behind Burnley with the club needing to better their result to secure safety.

But with the future of several first-team stars up in the air, including Phillips, Merson told SportsKeeda that even if he does leave he ‘100%’ won’t be joining Manchester United because of the history between the clubs despite their recent links [MEN].

“Kalvin Phillips’ future has been a major talking point as he has been linked with moves to a handful of Premier League clubs,” he said.

“If Leeds stay up, he’ll stay, but if they get relegated, I think he’s a goner.

“One thing is for sure, though – he’s not signing for Manchester United! 100%, no chance I can see that happening considering the history between the two teams.”

First thing first, Leeds need to win on Sunday so that all of these stories can be put to bed as soon as possible.

The speculation surrounding the futures of their top players has not helped the club in their battle against the drop and now they have to win on the final day and even that may not be enough.

Phillips’ future has been the hot topic as he enters the final 12 months of his deal, with a renewal seemingly reliant on whether they stay in the top flight because of the money he would earn.

But it’s been reported that the player wouldn’t want to join Manchester United anyway due to his affiliation with the Whites and it seems as though Merson believes him when he says it.

Ideally he won’t leave at all, but at least if he does go it won’t be to that lot at Old Trafford, so that’s a silver lining at least.
