Paul Merson reveals reason behind Rodrigo’s struggles for Leeds United against Brighton
Former England international Paul Merson believes that star Leeds United attacker Rodrigo is struggling with confidence.
In the first half of the Whites’ must-win clash against Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday at the Elland Road, the Spain international had a time to forget.
The 54-year-old passed those comments on Sky Sports Soccer Special where he highlighted confidence as the primary reason for Rodrigo’s recent struggles.
“Rodrigo is struggling badly,” said the former Arsenal player.
“His confidence is shot. Brighton by far, by far the better team.”
Rodrigo’s display in the first half of the match against Brighton was a rather disappointing one where he failed to make any significant chances for the home team.
During the first 60 minutes of the match, the 31-year-old registered just three touches inside the Brighton box.
The Spain international is the third-leading goal scorer for Leeds in the ongoing campaign with six goals to his name and all of them came in the Premier League.
However, off late, his form has been rather disappointing where he has not scored in the last four outings.
The fans and the coaching staff will be hopeful of seeing their star player, who joined the Whites from Spanish La Liga outfit Valencia in a deal worth £27 million in the summer of 2022, returning to form and score some crucial goals in the last two matches of the campaign which might prove to be a different-maker in the Leeds United’s season outcome.
