Paul Merson has questioned the future of Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips in a worrying Elland Road prediction.

The Whites fell to another defeat on Friday evening in the Premier League, losing 2-1 at home against West Ham.

Merson has claimed that Leeds' style has been found out in recent weeks, and questioned the future of Phillips if they continue in this manner.

Speaking on Sky Sports on Saturday, Merson claimed how long the likes of Phillips will want to play in this relentless style.

"Every neutral loves watching Leeds play because you know it's gonna be an open game, it's gonna be free-flowing, there's gonna be goals - but that's no good to Leeds," he said.

"I look at Phillips, and I was talking upstairs earlier with the lads: you look at Phillips and wonder how long is he gonna stay at Leeds for?

"You can't be playing man v man against players like Benrahma. Last week against Chelsea was the first time they really got found out and really embarrassed."

Marcelo Bielsa has made Phillips since he arrived.

El Loco transformed the Yorkshire Pirlo into a holding midfielder, and that has seen his value skyrocket after he gained international recognition with England.

Phillips loves Leeds and is a massive part of this project - something he proved when signing a long-term deal after missing out on promotion against Derby in 2019.

The 25-year-old averages nearly three tackles per game, and only two players have completed more key passes in each outing according to WhoScored.

This team is built around Phillips, and the more him, Bielsa and the Whites get to grips with the Premier League, the less worry we will have surrounding his future.
