Paul Merson predicts scoreline of Leeds United vs Watford

Leeds United will be looking to pick up their first Premier League win of the new season when Watford visit Elland Road on Saturday.

Three draws from their opening six league games in 2021-22 have left them in 18th place in the table, and Marcelo Bielsa will be desperate to head into the international break on the back of a much-needed victory.

Paul Merson believes the Whites should not have a problem securing a win at the expense of the visitors, predicting a comfortable 3-1 triumph for them.

He wrote in his Sportskeeda column: “As I said before, I like watching Leeds United. They play entertaining football, but the 2021-22 Premier League season has been tough for Marcelo Bielsa and co so far.

“Watford, on the other hand, are lethal on the counterattack and have a lot of pace on the flanks.

“If Leeds United don’t beat Watford at home – more so when they are desperate for a win – one would start to worry about them. There’s already a suspicion that teams have sussed them out, but I fancy them to hit the ground running and record a comfortable win this weekend.”

Leeds badly need a win right now, and heading into the break in the relegation zone will not be encouraging.

Watford are not going to be easy to beat, though, as they have proven in their early fixtures that they mean business.

The Vicarage Road outfit have won twice and drawn once so far, and given their style of play, they can comfortably carve the Whites open with their counterattacking football.

Injuries to key players have not done Bielsa any good, with the attack missing Patrick Bamford, while the defence will be without Diego Llorente, Robin Koch and Luke Ayling.

It is a big ask for Leeds, but they have what it takes to get a win against the Premier League returnees.

Equally, Watford have everything it takes to condemn them to their fourth defeat of the campaign if they refuse to cut out the mistakes, and an entertaining cum attacking game is on the cards.
