Paul Merson predicts scoreline in Leeds United Premier League clash v Wolves

Paul Merson has predicted Leeds United and Wolves to share the spoils on the opening weekend of the new Premier League season.

He admits that Leeds will miss Kalvin Phillips and that would be an extremely tough position for them to fill.

Merson also brings up the inconsistency among the Wolves side and believes that the two sides’ discrepancies will cancel each other out on Saturday, August 6.

In his Sportskeeda column, he wrote, “Wolves are a funny team – you never know what you’re going to get. One minute they look brilliant and the next, they look like they’re not going to score for a month.

“Jesse Marsch did well towards the end of last season, but he’ll have to do without Kalvin Phillips this year. Leeds struggled last year, and they’ll need to win this game if they don’t want another struggle in the Premier League.

“It’s going to be a hot summer’s day, and this match will likely end in a draw.

“Prediction: Leeds United 1-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers.”

Go for the win

Leeds may have lost their two best players, but they’ve also signed many more and strengthened in some key areas of the pitch.

A number of the players who have walked through the door have previously worked under Jesse Marsch.

This is important as the American will now find it easier to implement his philosophy and ideas onto the team after working with them throughout pre-season.

It will be interesting to see how many of the new signings actually start from the get go as some will undoubtedly need time to get used to life in the Premier League.

The front four options are also another interesting aspect and it remains to be seen if Rodrigo is given the nod as he’s been exceptional in pre-season.

In other Leeds United news, a 29-year-old has snubbed interest from Europe to move to Elland Road with the move subject to a work permit.
