Paul Merson predicts result of Leeds United Premier League clash v West Ham United

Paul Merson has made his prediction for the Premier League clash between Leeds United and West Ham this weekend at the London Stadium.

The Whites are battling against the drop to the Championship and sit one point adrift of safety with just two games to play, and could be relegated if results go against them this weekend.

But as they travel to take on a West Ham side with a European cup final in their view and with nothing to play for in the Premier League, Merson told Sportskeeda (19 May) that he believes Leeds could be “hungrier” and has backed them to claim all three points.

“This is the perfect time for Leeds United to face West Ham. They have to make this one count,” he said.

“The Hammers are likely to rest a lot of their players after their Europa Conference League heroics. Leeds will need to take advantage of it.

“If West Ham win the Conference League title, it’ll be absolutely amazing. It’ll be an absolutely brilliant season for them despite hovering near the relegation zone for most of it. What a turnaround it will be for David Moyes if they do end up winning a European title!

“However, Leeds United will be hungrier this weekend and that could help them get a massive result. West Ham United 0-2 Leeds United.”

Hungry

West Ham had been battling for their own safety in recent weeks but results recently have gone their way and they are now safe from relegation.

They will be coming back from a big win against AZ Alkmaar that saw them qualify for the Europa Conference League final, and their attentions will now surely be completely turned towards that.

The fans will be very hyped up after their success, but Leeds know they have a job to do and they will know by the time kick-off comes around what they need to do.

If Sam Allardyce can’t motivate the players and the current situation can’t fire them up enough to get a result against a team with nothing to play for knowing the potential outcomes then they deserve to go down.

Lets hope Merson is right and we can take this race for survival down to the final day of the season, where the Elland Road crowd will be rocking.
