Paul Merson predicts Leeds United defeat v Liverpool

Paul Merson expects Liverpool to run out comfortable 3-1 winners against Leeds United in the Premier League on Sunday.

He believes that the disappointing performance against Burnley will be a precursor to what lies ahead in their game against the Reds.

In terms of quality, Liverpool have the better side on paper, and given how Leeds like to play on the front foot, Merson expects there to be only one winner from this one.

In his Sportskeeda column, he wrote, “Given how Leeds approach their football and open the game up, I don’t see how they can live with Liverpool, to be honest.

“They were very disappointing against Burnley and struggled for most of the game. They were fortunate not to lose that game, and I don’t think they’ll have much luck this weekend.”

Leeds played Liverpool in their first game back up last season and gave them a run for their money and did the same in the reverse fixture, too.

The Reds were taken aback by Marcelo Bielsa’s men pressing them high up the pitch and not giving them any time to breathe in peace.

We’re expecting something similar on Sunday, especially given how the team will be reinvigorated after the international break.

Some players were out representing their countries, but most of them were at Thorp Arch and Bielsa would have been working very hard to get the side ready in order to register their first win of the season.

It will certainly be a tough game and the Whites will have to be at their very best, but if last season was any indicator, they’re capable enough to go out and give the big sides a run for their money.
