Paul Merson has admitted that Leeds United forward Patrick Bamford has proved him wrong "majorly" in the Premier League.

The Whites striker scored his 12th goal of the season in the 2-0 victory against Crystal Palace and has put his name in the reckoning for an England call-up.

Merson claimed that he never saw Bamford scoring as many as he has done this season, but couldn't help himself when showering him in praise.

Speaking on Sky Sports, as shared by the Yorkshire Evening Post, Merson shared he has been blown away by every aspect of Bamford's season so far.

"He works his socks off upfront," he said.

"I think he’s an absolute must. I think if Bamford gets injured, I think Leeds could struggle. For all the great play they have, he’s the one, a lot of the time, who makes it happen.

"I like him. If you’d said to me at the start of the season, I would have never seen this happening. I really didn’t.

"I couldn’t talk highly enough of the lad. He's majorly proved me wrong – majorly."

Just when you thought Bamford couldn't get any better this season, he started adding assists to his game as well as the goals.

The 27-year-old has assisted three goals in as many games recently and is well on track to smashing past 20 goal involvements in his first season back in the Premier League.

Bamford has a better shot accuracy than Harry Kane this season, and has more assists than the likes of Mohamed Salah, as his all-round game continues to soar.

Merson is right to eat his words on Bamford, who continues to get better and better, the next goal? It has to be 20 goals.
