Paul Merson loses mind over ‘absolutely unbelievable’ Georginio Rutter in Leeds United v Swansea
Paul Merson was wowed by Georginio Rutter as he scored for Leeds United in the first half of the 3-1 win over Swansea City on Wednesday (29 November).
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Soccer Special on Wednesday (08:37pm), the pundit said he would compare the goal to Dennis Bergkamp after the 21-year-old forward pulled the ball out of the air before sending a cool finish past Swans keeper Carl Rushworth.
He added that anything coming over your head is “absolutely unbelievable” and that it was “class” from the Frenchman.

“I’d go Dennis Bergkamp,” said Merson. “Tom’s right, that is unbelievable. Anything over the top of your head like that, that is absolutely unbelievable. That’s class that is.”
Can’t teach that
It was an incredible piece of skill from Rutter to pull Ethan Ampadu’s lovely ball over the top out of the air before applying a convincing finish.
It will certainly go down as one of the Championship’s goals of the season because it is such a difficult skill to try and pull off.
For Merson to compare it to his former Arsenal teammate Bergkamp just shows how good it was as he is one of the most talented players to play in the Premier League.

The Frenchman has shown this season that he has plenty of quality in his locker without showing much of a ruthless edge in front of goal, but that changed with his brilliant touch and finish against the Swans.
He will now be looking to keep pushing forward to provide more of a goal threat over the next few weeks as he looks to help the Whites challenge for promotion this season.
In other Leeds United news, a Whites player is surely set for a January exit after the latest Farke snub.
