Paul Merson includes Leeds star Raphinha in Premier League Team of the Season

Paul Merson has singled out Leeds United winger Raphinha for praise after his “outstanding” maiden campaign in the Premier League.

The Brazilian has been phenomenal since signing from Rennes and finished his first season at Elland Road with another assist against West Brom.

Merson included the winger in his Team of the Season, the only Sky pundit to include a Whites star in their side in the Sunday special.

Writing on Sky Sports once the season was over, Merson was full of love for one Leeds star as he picked his Team of the Season.

“Raphinha has been an absolute sensation for Leeds this season,” he wrote.

“To go into Leeds as a Brazilian player, and you have to be a certain type of player to play the Leeds way, and he has taken to it like a duck to water and has been absolutely outstanding.”

Raphinha has simply been outstanding since arriving at Elland Road.

It is no question that he has been one of the best signings since the turn of the century, and he is only going to get better with better players around him.

Turning down Champions League football with Rennes to move to West Yorkshire was a massive decision, but Marcelo Bielsa has made it worthwhile for him.

Merson has been transformed into a huge Leeds fan this season, but it appears as though other Sky pundits forgot just how good we have been with their selections.

Gary Neville selecting Marcus Rashford over Raphinha is laughable, especially given the individual effect both players have had on their sides – the Whites winger has been involved in 15 goals in only 30 appearances.

What a player, we can’t wait to watch him every week in person next season already.
