Paul Dickov drools over Leeds United youngster Joe Gelhardt v Norwich

Paul Dickov has showered heaps of praise on Leeds United youngster Joe Gelhardt for his performance against Norwich City in the Premier League.

The 19-year-old scored deep in injury time to seal a 2-1 victory for the Whites on Sunday (13 March) in what was Jesse Marsch’s first win as a manager since replacing Marcelo Bielsa.

With that Leeds also ended their horrible run of six games without a win, and they now have got a breathing space in the relegation battle.

Dickov spoke to BBC Football Daily Podcast: “Delighted for young Gelhardt. He is an outstanding young talent.

“Whenever he is being called upon, probably not enough in recent games when Bamford’s been out. He is a real talent.”

Pulsating

It was an end-to-end thrilling game and probably the Whites deserved this win, mainly because of the number of chances they created.

Gelhardt was only on the pitch for less than two minutes after he came on as a substitute, but he still managed to make an instant impact.

The youngster is a fantastic talent, and he has this natural ability to add spark in the middle of the park.

Rodrigo gave the lead in the first half and Leeds did well to preserve it for a long period. However, it felt like the same old story when Kenny McLean scored in the injury time.

Probably, Raphinha and Gelhardt had other plans in mind.

Raphinha showed great energy and presence of mind to snatch the ball from the last defender, and then beat the goalkeeper to deliver a pin-point cross in the box.

Gelhardt just poked in from close range to leave the Elland Road crowd in absolute delirium.

Leeds should have scored more goals had they taken their chances. They can now carry the confidence forward and make a strong finish to the season.
