Patrick Vieira praises Jack Harrison ahead of Leeds clash v Crystal Palace

Leeds United winger Jack Harrison has been lauded by Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira ahead of tonight’s Premier League fixture.

The Whites host the Eagles this evening, looking to improve after a disappointing display in the 0-0 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

Vieira, appointed Palace boss in the summer, was in charge of New York City FC during Harrison’s time at the MLS club.

The Frenchman said [via Football.London]: “I’m really pleased with how well he has been doing since leaving the MLS.

“He’s a really talented young player who just needed to find the right place to play and to challenge himself because his work ethic is one of the best in the game.

“He is always wanting to improve his commitment to the game. It’s fantastic and working with him in New York was really enjoyable.”

Mutual admiration

Harrison has been one of Leeds’ best players in recent seasons and the club secured an excellent deal by signing him for £11m from Manchester City in the summer after having him on loan for the previous three years.

The 25-year-old registered eight goals and eight assists in 2020-21, making the step up to the Premier League look seamless.

As with the rest of the Whites squad, he has struggled to find his best form so far this season, recording just one assist in 11 league appearances.

Nonetheless, he remains a key part of Bielsa’s attacking set-up and is almost a nailed-on starter on the left wing; his energy, work rate and defensive contribution make him the perfect fit for the Argentine’s high-intensity system.

Harrison has previously spoken fondly of his time in New York under Vieira, so it is sure to be a sentimental reunion at Elland Road this evening.

In other Leeds United news, the future of one Whites youngster is up in the air, with discussions to take place soon.
