Patrick Vieira now in pole position to be next Leeds United manager as he shoots up shortlist

Patrick Vieira is in “pole position” to fill the managerial vacancy at Leeds United, according to The Guardian.

The boss was dismissed from his role as manager of Premier League club Crystal Palace in March as the Eagles struggled in the top flight.

The Guardian noted that, although not a Championship promotion expert like other managers, Vieira has admirers among the Leeds hierarchy.

“Patrick Vieira has moved to the top of the shortlist to fill the managerial vacancy at Leeds as the club’s board conduct their final round of interviews this week,” according to The Guardian.

“Although Daniel Farke and Scott Parker remain in contention, Vieira appears in pole position after indicating an enthusiasm for replacing Sam Allardyce at Elland Road.”

Strong contender

Leeds are in desperate need of a manager, and they could definitely do a lot worse than Vieira.

The Premier League legend didn’t exactly bow out of Crystal Palace on the best terms, but he has proven in his brief managerial career so far that he certainly has enough talent to be in the dugout of a top team.

It’s clearly a difficult job that he would be taking on, with the Whites turning to three bosses last season in Jesse Marsch, Javi Gracia and Sam Allardyce, with the trio not able to steady the ship at Elland Road.

That ship ultimately sank as the Whites were relegated on the final day of the Premier League campaign, with the club now needing some inspiration from the dugout as they seek to bounce back to the top flight immediately.

And Vieira is definitely capable of being the hero they need right now to take them back to the big time.
