Patrick Van Aanholt applauds Leeds display v Liverpool in dig at Super League

Patrick Van Aanholt was wowed by Leeds United in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool and suggests the Whites should be invited to the European Super League.

The Crystal Palace defender is reportedly being targeted by the Whites on a free transfer in the summer [The Mirror].

Van Aanholt has been vocal on Twitter on the subject since Monday morning, and he made the tongue in cheek comment after Leeds’ impressive display.

His tweet read, “Leeds look like they should be in the Super League though.”

Competing with the top six

We may have been out of the top flight for 16 years but it has not taken us long to look at home in the Premier League.

Our very first match back showed what we are capable of as we went toe to toe with the league champions, and did so once again in the return meeting at Elland Road.

It took us a while to get going on Monday but the second half was one-way traffic and with better finishing we easily could have won.

Nevertheless, to take four points from Manchester City and Liverpool is quite a statement and shows we are heading in the right direction.

It was nice to get the support of most fans in England on Monday – for once – and hopefully our attractive, attacking style appeals to Van Aanholt.

He is a full-back who likes to get forward so we certainly suit his style – more so than Palace who have had the second-fewest amount of shots in the Premier League [WhoScored] .

Leeds have a good chance of signing him this summer and it is reassuring to see how our positive play can intrigue transfer targets.
