Patrick Bamford stance on new Leeds United contract emerges after Elland Road update

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford is “very loyal” to the Whites and willing to extend his contract at Elland Road, according to Ben Jacobs.

The Englishman is yet to feature for Daniel Farke’s side this season having been stuck on the treatment table for much of pre-season after missing the Whites’ playoff campaign last term.

Bamford’s current contract at Elland Road expires at the end of the 2025/26 season and while extending his deal is a priority for the Whites [Ben Jacobs, 6 September], football broadcaster Jacobs insists he doesn’t want to leave.

Speaking to Give Me Sport (6 September) he said: “He’s willing to extend and has never had an issue playing in the Championship compared to other options.

“He’s very loyal to Leeds, he doesn’t want to go anywhere at this stage.”

Will Patrick Bamford exit Leeds United amid Elland Road transfer rumours?

As Jacobs suggests, Bamford has been very loyal to Leeds United over the last couple of seasons when several of his teammates have jumped ship following relegation from the Premier League.

While that loyalty should be commended and rewarded, that alone shouldn’t be enough for the striker to earn a new contract. Bamford needs to show that he is worthy of his place in Farke’s squad in the coming weeks.

The former England international has seemingly fallen behind Mateo Joseph and Joel Piroe in the Leeds boss’ pecking order at this moment in time and he will likely have to bide his time before starting matches regularly again.

With nearly two years remaining on his current contract, Leeds should take their time before making any final decisions on Bamford’s future, particularly as they look to win promotion back to the Premier League.

It is hard to see the forward playing regularly in the top flight next term if Farke’s Whites do manage to win promotion, but he could have a major role to play if Leeds miss out again and need to cut their cloth accordingly.

Ultimately, no decision has to be made this instant.
