Patrick Bamford shares what Daniel Farke told him after Leeds United win v Birmingham

Patrick Bamford has shared that Daniel Farke congratulated him following the game after he scored in the 3-0 win for Leeds United against Birmingham at Elland Road on 1 January.

As reported by Virgin Radio journalist Rich Williams on Twitter, the striker revealed Farke simply told him: “Nice goal big fella”, in reaction to the striker scoring his first goal of the season after 17 league appearances so far.

Bamford’s poor form this season finally looks to have come to an end, with his goal at Elland Road his first in a league win since 2021, and he will now be looking to push on from this moment.

Not exactly high praise

It was a simple and blunt line from Farke, congratulating his striker on finally having scored after numerous underwhelming displays, and the boss would most likely prefer to see him continuing this good form to prove he still belongs at Elland Road.

There had been plenty of speculation over the striker’s future at Leeds, with him falling behind Joel Piroe and Georginio Rutter, perhaps even Mateo Joseph, in the pecking order at Elland Road, but he has now begun on the path to redemption.

It took 17 Championship appearances for Bamford to finally find the net, and the hope now will be that it doesn’t take 17 more for him to find his second, with some confidence finally being brought back into his game.

With the stuttering goalscoring form of summer signing Joel Piroe, Bamford may have an opportunity to make his mark on the first team, and he will have to seize it with both hands if he wants to rise back up in the opinions of many at Leeds.

In other Leeds United news, the club must accelerate a £5.2million transfer move.
