Patrick Bamford shares Leeds United backroom training admission with Joe Wilkinson

Patrick Bamford has shared that Leeds United don’t have a designated set-piece coach within their backroom staff.

The Whites have notoriously struggled with set-piece goals over the last couple of seasons until Pascal Struijk finally bagged one against Sheffield United on 18 October.

Speaking on the My Mates a Footballer Podcast (7 November), Bamford shared which of Leeds’ staff takes the lead on coaching set-pieces.

“I think that’s something that has just come in a bit more, but it’s also the big teams,” he said.

“One of our assistant coaches kind of takes control of the set-pieces and I wouldn’t say he’s a set-piece specialist and I’m sure he wouldn’t say he’s a set-piece specialist either.

“But I think Arsenal now it’s been highlighted that they have a set guy who’s just come in for set pieces”.

Leeds United need to get back on track after Millwall defeat

Unfortunately for Bamford, the Englishman hasn’t been able to have much of an impact on the West Yorkshire outfit’s season due to the multiple injuries he’s suffered this term.

He’s been sidelined for most of the campaign and has only just recently returned to Daniel Farke’s first-team squad.

Despite only just coming back, it feels like he could be afforded the chance to start over both Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph due to their poor form in the final third over the last few weeks.

While Bamford’s injury history may leave a lot to be desired, it’s hard to deny his importance to the Whites’ set-up, especially when his form in the second half of last season is taken into consideration.

Farke’s men have only lost two Championship games this season but if they wish to gain automatic promotion to the Premier League and avoid taking part in the playoffs again, they need to get themselves back on track against QPR on 9 November and show they mean business.
