Patrick Bamford shares how Daniel Farke and Leeds United teammates reacted to ‘outrageous’ goal v Peterborough
Patrick Bamford has shared how the Leeds United dressing room reacted to his “outrageous” goal against Peterborough, admitting that Daniel Farke branded his strike “lucky”.
The English international scored a “ridiculous” volley as the Whites beat Peterborough 3-0 on Sunday, chesting a long ball from Ethan Ampadu down before striking from range only minutes into the second half.
Bamford’s strike has seen him earn plaudits from pundits and supporters across the world and while Archie Gray thought it deserved to be nominated for the Puskas award, Farke took a more tongue-in-cheek approach.

Speaking on BBC Sport’s My Mate’s A Footballer Podcast (11 January, 9:00) he said: “You know Archie Gray the young lad, he’s only 17. Literally, as soon as we came into the changing room and the manager had finished talking and we sat down, he properly showed his age, he was like a kid so excited.
“He was like, ‘oh my god, oh my god. You’re going to go to the Puskas Awards. Honestly, that’s going to get nominated I’m sure.’ I think he was more excited than me.
“When we were celebrating they were like ‘Oh my god that is ridiculous, that is outrageous.’ Going back to what the manager said, he didn’t really mention it too much, he was just talking about the team.
“I preferred it when he was just on about the team rather than singling me out. He did say on the pitch ‘A little bit of a lucky goal’ or something like that. Obviously tongue in cheek, he was pulling my leg.”
Little bit lucky
It speaks volumes about just how good Bamford’s goal was that almost a week later, everyone around Leeds United is still talking about it. The 30-year-old has blown everyone away with his wonderful effort and the talk around it isn’t going to stop anytime soon.
The closeness of this group inside Elland Road is clear to see just based upon their reactions to the goal as every single Leeds player was buzzing for the striker and quick to congratulate him for his superb strike.

However, it also shows just how good Farke’s man management is as he didn’t allow the striker to get too big for his boots and ensured that he kept his feet on the ground, even after a moment of FA Cup magic.
Hopefully, Bamford will kick on now and that strike against Peterborough will just be one of many excellent goals he scores between now and the end of the campaign. In this sort of form, he is a real asset to the Whites.
