Patrick Bamford set to play under Liverpool’s FSG owners in shock next move after Leeds exit
Patrick Bamford departed Leeds United in recent weeks after seven years at Elland Road, and he is closing in on a new transfer that could see him play under Liverpool’s owners.
The 32-year-old has struggled for fitness and consistency in recent years, but at his best, Bamford was a formidable finisher under Marcelo Bielsa.
Leeds have struggled for goals this season, but it was clear that Bamford was not the answer, and a fresh start elsewhere for the striker was the right move.
The Englishman is close to agreeing a move elsewhere, and Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, will soon have a close connection to him.

Patrick Bamford closes in on Getafe move ahead of FSG takeover
It had already been reported that Bamford is closing in on a shock move to La Liga side Getafe, weeks after the transfer windows in England and Spain shut.
Getafe are short of depth in attacking areas, and are willing to gamble on Bamford’s fitness on a free transfer.
The Madrid-based side are currently sixth in La Liga after a bright start to the season, and Bamford will hope to play a bigger role and build up his fitness.

Getafe are now set for a change in ownership, though, as Liverpool’s owners FSG are reportedly closing in on a takeover of the club.
The Daily Mail’s Dominic King reported via X on 25 September that FSG have completed their due diligence as they push ahead with plans to purchase another club.
This could see some of Liverpool’s best young talents loaned to Getafe, and Bamford could end up playing alongside them.

Patrick Bamford set for future USA move
If Bamford’s move to Getafe does not work out, then the 32-year-old could leave European football entirely, with a future move to the USA to play in MLS likely.
Speaking in May 2025, Bamford admitted that he would love to play in the USA one day, with his family also set to play a part in any move abroad.
“I think it’s something that over time with Michaela [Ireland], I’d spoken to her about it, playing abroad, with America one of the options,” Bamford stated when asked about a potential MLS move.
“It was something that when I was younger, I always wanted to do at some point in my career to experience it – a new country, a new lifestyle there and also trying myself in a new league.
“Once you have a family and a wife, it’s got to be run by them, and to be fair they gave it the green light.”
Although a good servant for Leeds, his ineffectiveness in front of goal became an issue for Daniel Farke, and it would be a surprise if he manages to become a consistent goalscorer in La Liga given his struggles.
