Patrick Bamford makes 4-5 week fitness admission on radio

Leeds United forward Patrick Bamford has admitted that it would take up to five weeks to return to full match fitness once football is back.

Leeds’ players were sent home from training last week in order to stop the spread of coronavirus among Marcelo Bielsa’s staff and squad.

Football has been on shutdown for over a week and it could be months before serious discussions can begin about when it can resume.

Bamford spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live on Monday night and admitted that although he can keep his overall fitness up, players would need four to five weeks of training in order to be fully match fit again.

BBC Radio Leeds broadcaster Adam Pope shared what Bamford said via his personal Twitter account.

Bielsa might want more than five weeks with his players at Thorp Arch before the football is able to restart.

Everyone knows how important it is for Bielsa’s players to have a full pre-season in the summer before being able to make much of an impact in his side.

They need to be up to scratch with his tactics and with their fitness.

If Bamford reckons it might take five weeks, Bielsa might want it to be six or seven weeks of intense training to get back to the levels he demands.
