Patrick Bamford: Leeds United legend Marcelo Bielsa wants his daughter to marry Kalvin Phillips
Marcelo Bielsa wants former Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips to marry his daughter, according to Patrick Bamford.
Speaking on the BBC’s My Mate’s A Footballer podcast on Thursday (16 November), the 30-year-old was asked by host Joe Wilkinson who the most popular footballer he knows is.
The English forward answered that it was his former Whites teammate Phillips before revealing that his ex-Elland Road boss Bielsa told the now-Manchester City star that if his daughter had to marry a footballer, then he would pick him.
“Who is the most popular footballer you know, as in got the most friends, everyone loves?” Wilkinson asked Bamford.
“Do you know what, Kalvin Phillips,” said Bamford. “So Bielsa, he said to Kalvin if he had to pick one footballer to marry his daughter, he would pick him.”
Random
It’s a completely random statement for Bielsa to have come out with, but the former Leeds manager was no stranger to making unusual remarks.
The Argentine is a quirky character and did many things that were out of the ordinary at Elland Road, which made him stand out and endeared him to the Whites fans.
Another extremely popular figure was Phillips, so it’s actually no real surprise that his former boss picked the 27-year-old out in this scenario.

The pair had a number of successful years together in West Yorkshire, having achieved promotion to the Premier League before they both moved on in 2022.
There is no doubt that the duo are still very much loved for everything they did for the club during their time together with the Whites.
Perhaps the wedding ceremony could be held in Leeds if Bielsa ever gets his wish.
