Patrick Bamford latest: ‘Sad’ update on Leeds striker as new issue emerges

Patrick Bamford has been hit by another setback as a crushing update has emerged in the striker’s quest for fitness.

Although Leeds United are having a terrific season under the management of Daniel Farke and sights are set on the Premier League, the 31-year-old has not been able to share this optimism.

Bamford is one man who has seen his role in the side decrease in comparison to the last time promotion was achieved.

The striker has had minimal involvement for his side throughout the campaign and injury issues have not helped aided any desire to be involved.

Patrick Bamford suffers injury setback

While Farke’s stance not to bring many of new faces in during the winter transfer window was certainly understandable in a wider sense, there were some concerns about a lack of movement to bring attacking reinforcements to Elland Road.

Mateo Joseph has been underwhelming at the top end of the pitch this season and although Joel Piroe has 14 goals to his name this term, an injury to him would see a lack of alternatives available.

This is due to the fact that Bamford has been struck by injury this term, keeping him sidelined.

Although the striker has not been in Farke’s plans this season, with just 10 appearances in the Championship this term, there is still the feeling that he could have been called upon if the boss needed a man.

Bamford has been missing from the Leeds squad since his side’s game against Hull City on 4 January due to picking up an injury and although he was hoping to be on the road to recovery, he has faced another set-back.

In his pre-match press conference, Daniel Farke confirmed [quoted via Beren Cross on via X, 14 February]: “Sadly, the last days were not ideal for his rehab. He will need another 10 days of individual rehab before team training. Not able to sprint properly yet. Should join us after the Sheffield game.”

Patrick Bamford set for more Leeds United misery

Although Bamford was a Leeds United mainstay in a previous life, the 31-year-old has faced a difficult period at Elland Road of late.

Constant injury issues have not helped the striker but he has also failed to make an impact with his performances on the rare occasion that he has been called upon by his boss leaving the situation in a difficult position.

Throughout the winter transfer window, a move away from West Yorkshire was mooted with some heavy links to a departure.

However, nothing materialised and he remains at Leeds until the end of the campaign, despite not being fit enough to play any part at the minute.

Nevertheless, it would not be a surprise to see the two parties cut ties with one another in the summer transfer window and bring an end to this saga.
