Patrick Bamford hails Leeds United goalkeeper Ilan Meslier as 'the best' on Instagram
Patrick Bamford has hailed Leeds United goalkeeper Ilan Meslier as “the best” on Instagram after the Whites goalkeeper produced a scintillating performance against Newcastle.
Meslier, 22, was simply outstanding on the night as the Whites managed a 0-0 draw against an in-form Newcastle side at St James’ Park.
The French goalkeeper took to Instagram after the game to share his reaction, and Bamford was one of those who responded with a brilliant message.
“A clean sheet and a solid point at St James for the last day of 2022,” wrote Meslier on Instagram.
“The best,” responded Bamford.
While Bamford has struggled for fitness once again, he was spot on with his remark for Meslier, even though he didn’t really quite mean it.
Players often say such stuff to boost the morale of their teammates, and Bamford may have done exactly that.
Meslier was superb against the Magpies where he made several top saves to keep the Whites in the game.
The French goalkeeper could be in demand in the summer transfer window even if Leeds avoid the drop and finish within the top half of the table.
Tottenham Hotspur are one of the clubs vying for his signature, according to TEAMtalk journalist Graeme Bailey [8 November], but the Whites are expected to demand a fee in the region of £35m for their prized asset.
Meslier has grown into a fabulous keeper at the club. He not only makes great saves but we now see him being vocal at the back, which shows that he is brimming with confidence at the moment.
He has a contract at the club until 2026, and the Whites should be under no pressure to sell him, even if there’s a big offer on the table.
In other Leeds United news, the club is thrashing out terms for an early January signing after this player jetted into the UK for a move.
