Leeds United stars Patrick Bamford and Connor Roberts underwent late fitness tests ahead of the final-day clash with Southampton, according to Leeds Live.

The outlet reported on its website on Saturday (4 May) that the pair who Daniel Farke confirmed were injury doubts for Saturday's promotion showdown at Elland Road took last-minute assessments to test their injuries.

Both players completed their tests at Thorp Arch late on Friday (3 May) and it now remains to be seen whether or not they will be fit to play a part against the Saints as Leeds look to pull off the impossible and win automatic promotion.

Will Patrick Bamford and Connor Roberts be fit to play for Leeds United at Elland Road v Southampton?

Farke and the rest of the team at Leeds United hadn't expected Bamford to be sidelined for this long following a bruise in the win over Middlesbrough, but it seems that the initial impact was perhaps more severe than initially feared.

While the striker has been a divisive figure throughout his time at Elland Road, the Whites have clearly been a better side this season when he has been fit as the likes of Joel Piroe and Mateo Jospeh have struggled to replace him.

Leeds have a bit more wiggle room when it comes to Roberts as they have plenty of players capable of playing at right-back. Archie Gray has been excellent in his first season of Championship football while Sam Byram has been a steady presence at the back.

Connor Roberts was the only January signing at Leeds United.

If the Welshman is fit to feature at Elland Road, it would be a massive boost for Farke and his side, but they may be better off keeping him fit for the playoffs as it seems unlikely the Whites will win automatic promotion this term.

Hopefully, no matter who starts Leeds will end the regular season on a high and at least keep their increasingly slim hopes of an immediate return to the Premier League alive.
