Patrick Bamford absent from Leeds United squad amid latest transfer news
Sam Byram and Joe Gelhardt have both been spotted with the Leeds United squad for their Championship clash against Hull City on Saturday, Graham Smyth has said.
The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist reported via his personal X account (4 January) that while the aforementioned duo were at the MKM Stadium, Patrick Bamford was absent.
Byram was one of the many doubts for the game due to the illness he was suffering with in their game against Blackburn earlier in the week.
“Sam Byram is here, Joe Gelhardt is here, he wrote. “No sign of Patrick Bamford.”
Bamford has featured 10 times from the substitutes’ bench for Leeds in the Championship this season, including their past two matches.
Beginning of the end for Patrick Bamford at Leeds United?
Although Daniel Farke’s men were expected to be short with a couple of their players, Bamford’s absence is something of a mystery.
The attacker has been consistently linked with an Elland Road exit since the start of the season and now that the January transfer window is open, those rumours have only strengthened.
Teams such as Wrexham are reportedly interested in acquiring his services but nothing is yet set in stone.
Gelhardt and Byram are also two likely welcome additions to the team as, without the latter of the two, it feels like Leeds’ defensive line would have been a bit ropey.

Gelhardt, on the other hand, has also been linked with a move away but with his inclusion in Saturday’s squad, it feels like Farke could have a different plan in place for him.
Only time will tell what line-up the German chooses to go with but, no matter what, now that Byram is back, it feels almost certain that the former Norwich man will be starting against Ruben Selles’ men.
