Pascal Struijk injury: Leeds United ‘season could be over’ in crushing blow
Daniel Farke has shared a massive injury update on Pascal Struijk as Leeds United face Middlesbrough in the Championship on Tuesday.
The Riverside Stadium will host the Whites on 8 April as the visitors will look to bounce back from their recent result.
Luton Town took a point from Farke’s team on Saturday (5 April) after a 1-1 draw against the West Yorkshire outfit, with Isaiah Jones and Daniel James scoring.
Pascal Struijk was seen limping at Kenilworth Road, and the Elland Road faithful have been provided an update on the centre-back’s situation before travelling to North Yorkshire.
Leeds United will be without Struijk for Middlesbrough clash
Struijk will miss the next two fixtures for the Whites in the Championship, Farke says.
The German manager also revealed that there’s fear the 25-year-old Dutchman’s season could potentially be over if he’s sustained a foot fracture.
Competition (2024/25) | Appearances | Points per match | Goals |
Championship | 35 | 2.03 | 5 |
Farke admits, though, that the West Yorkshire outfit will need to wait for further assessments on the defender to determine the extent of his injury.
Speaking in the pre-match press conference before the Boro on the Peacocks’ YouTube channel, the head coach said: “Struijk will definitely miss the two games this week. We need to wait for some further assessment. He got a knock on his foot. More like a hit.
“And the fear is there could be a fracture. If it’s a fracture, that means the season is over”
Farke needs win against Middlesbrough to drown out noise
Farke’s team are still seen as favourites to win Championship promotion, but their prospects of winning the title have taken a hit after dropping points against Luton.
The Whites were expected to comfortably win the league a few weeks back, but some underwhelming displays have seen them drop out of the top two.
Burnley have taken top spot in the table after beating Coventry 2-1 away from home, with Sheffield United in second.
Leeds are a point behind Chris Wilder’s team, and things don’t look promising for them.
Farke won’t want to play in the Championship play-offs, having already lost the final last season to Southampton.
The West Yorkshire outfit arguably have the best squad in the second division of English football, and their inability to win automatic promotion will lead to questions around the German manager’s future.
With prospects looking bleak at the Whites, 49ers Enterprises will have a massive decision to make come next summer.
Missing Struijk for the remainder of the campaign would make Farke’s job even more challenging.
