Paraag Marathe’s treatment of Leeds employees revealed as Daniel Farke faces sack

Paraag Marathe is said to have given his Leeds United employees the freedom of decision-making, but has now been urged to make a major call of his own.

Leeds lost 3-2 to Manchester City in cruel fashion on Saturday, conceding in stoppage time despite staging a heroic second-half comeback at the Etihad Stadium.

Man City led 2-0 at the break before Lukas Nmecha and Dominic Calvert-Lewin both scored to level the game for the Whites, as Phil Foden’s late-winner stole all the points for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Leeds are facing a threat of relegation from the Premier League, and a point would’ve been seen as a good one.

Daniel Farke may face even more pressure because of the result, and Marathe’s handling of Leeds has once again come under the microscope.

Paraag Marathe is ‘obsessed’ with Leeds employees behind the scenes

Farke is facing the possibility of being sacked by Marathe, with the head coach now the odds-on favourite to be the next axed Premier League manager.

However, the performance against City may have instilled an extra boost of belief into supporters that Farke is indeed the man to take Leeds forward.

In the print edition of Sunday People on 30 November, journalist Jeremy Cross revealed what Marathe is like behind closed doors at Leeds, and urged him to decide on Farke.

Cross wrote: “Farke and his side stood up to the great Pep Guardiola, and the performance should be enough to earn him more time to prove he’s the man to keep Leeds up.

“Marathe is said to be obsessed with empowering employees to do their jobs – but what he needs to do is focus on doing his own. Get rid of Farke now, or back him with significant signings in the January window.”

Given the Whites’ performance against City, Marathe now has to make up his mind on Farke.

Marathe needs to set up meeting with Daniel Farke

During the international break, the 49ers publicly backed Farke in light of frustrating results, but it never seemed sincere.

The German head coach was always going to struggle in the top flight, but Marathe knew this, and it’s unclear at this stage what the latter’s true feelings are on the current situation.

Marathe needs to sit Farke down on Monday and give him the confidence that he is trusted by the board and will be backed in January.

Leeds showed they still want to fight for the 49-year-old, and the German proved that his tactics can still be useful in keeping the Whites up after all.

Marathe needs to stick with his man and make better transfers in January to give Farke the best chance possible of helping the Whites stay in the big-time.
