Pape Gueye links surely say it all about Adam Forshaw future at Leeds United as speculation emerges
Adam Forshaw has been an incredible servant for Leeds United during his time at the club, but it does appear his days in West Yorkshire are numbered.
The 31-year-old signed a new deal in January of 2022 to keep him at Elland Road until the summer of 2023, however, he’s seen his game time extremely limited under Jesse Marsch. The former Brentford man has featured just three times for Leeds in the Premier League in the 2022/23 season for a combined total of just 47 minutes.
It’s evident that Marsch is eager for his midfielders to be combative, energetic and intense pressers as a priority over being technically gifted. Forshaw is a wonderful technician and was instrumental for Leeds in Marcelo Bielsa’s system.
Things just aren’t quite working out for the midfielder at the moment and with the Whites’ latest transfer news, the bad news keeps on coming for Forshaw.
Jeunes Footeux report (3 November) that Leeds are battling Southampton for Marseille midfielder Pape Gueye, with the 23-year-old an energetic midfielder, who suits the Marsch style of play. With Marc Roca and Tyler Adams shoo-ins to start for Marsch, Forshaw already finds himself down the pecking order.
If another midfielder joins the club in January, it would feel like a point of no return has been reached, with the 31-year-old’s future destined to be away from the club.
The board backing Marsch again in the winter window would be an indication to everyone that he is here for the long term. The players which have been added to his squad are tailormade for his style of play. It wouldn’t make sense to relieve the American from his duties and start the whole process again with a manger with different ideas.
