Oxford United player targeted with verbal abuse by Leeds United fans
Leeds United supporters taunted Oxford United’s goalkeeper Jamie Cumming throughout the game between the two sides on Saturday, according to Leeds Live.
The news outlet reported that despite the Whites thrashing their opponents 4-0 on Saturday [21 December], it was the wind that led to Cumming being poked fun at.
The high winds were a battle for the Oxford goalkeeper throughout the afternoon, with goal kicks repeatedly going astray.
This led to persistent jibes from the home supporters, who watched their own Joe Rothwell struggle with the weather and adapt his game, unlike the opposition.
The article read: “The wind caused all sorts of problems and goalkeeper Cumming struggled to strike a single decent goal-kick. What made his afternoon more difficult was the verbal abuse he received from the home fans behind his goal.
“Supporters let him know they were watching whenever he had the ball at his feet and it clearly played a part.
“He did eventually revert to using his central defenders, rather than going long. At 1-0, the former Chelsea academy star seemed to share a joke with the home fans.”
Leeds United walk all over Oxford United
It was another dominant performance from the Whites at the weekend to retain their second-place position in the table as they overcame their opponents, who sit second-bottom of the Championship.
Daniel Farke’s side had nine shots on target, scoring four times while the Us were unable to register a single shot on target.
Therefore, it’s no surprise that the Leeds supporters were choosing to poke fun at the opposition goalkeeper throughout the game with it being a one-sided affair throughout and leaving a bit of festive fun to be had.

Despite the opposition having done well to get themselves promoted to the second tier, they have unfortunately struggled in adapting to the step up.
That being said, this game was surely a display of how dominate Leeds have been this season, though, and Farke will be keen to see his side deliver similar performances in the second half of the campaign as he aims to take his side back to the Premier League.
