Owen Hargreaves slams Leeds United forward Rodrigo v Leicester

Leeds United lost 1-0 against Leicester City in the Premier League on Saturday (5 March) at the King Power Stadium.

It was an energetic and much-improved performance from the players in Jesse Marsch’s first game in charge, but Owen Hargreaves wasn’t particularly impressed with Rodrigo.

The BT Sport pundit suggested that the 31-year-old forward was “really poor” during the game. Marsch took him off after the hour mark, with Joe Gelhardt replacing him.

Hargreaves told Premier League Productions: “Rodrigo is one of the best technical players. He was really poor in crucial moments when they have needed him.”

This has been an odd-season for Rodrigo who hasn’t been able to justify his hefty price-tag since joining from Valencia.

This season, he has made 20 appearances in the Premier League, where he managed three goals and an assist.

Given his quality and wealth of experience, the Spaniard should be delivering more.

Rodrigo managed three shots against the Foxes, but his overall participation wasn’t noticeable.

With Patrick Bamford now back from injury, and Gelhardt likely to get more opportunities going forward, it shouldn’t come as a surprise if Rodrigo drops down the pecking order at the club.

Leeds find themselves 16th in the league table, only two points above the drop zone. They need to give their best till the end of the season and show real characters to stay up.

The next two games are absolutely vital for them. Leeds face Aston Villa and Norwich, and Marsch should be aiming for maximum points from those two games.

In other Leeds United news, Jesse Marsch shares a ‘fearless’ view on his players.
