Orta looking at four central midfielders as Leeds aim to sign at least one
Leeds United director of football Victor Orta is looking at three or four central midfielders in the hope of landing at least one, according to Mirror.
The Elland Road outfit are keen on bolstering their squad this month, but “no deals are close and nothing may happen until the final days of the transfer window when clubs, players and agents become more amenable.”
Spanish teenage striker Mateo Joseph is the only player Leeds have brought in so far this winter, but the Espanyol academy graduate will be linking up with Mark Jackson’s under-23s squad.
The Whites are not huge fans of the January transfer window, but their injury woes could force their hands.
Marcelo Bielsa could be without up to 10 players for this weekend’s trip to West Ham for their Premier League clash, and landing a couple of quality additions is absolutely necessary.
Leeds are currently thin in the middle of the park, with Kalvin Phillips out until next month, and bringing in one cover in the position makes a lot of sense.
They have been linked with Aaron Ramsey, Ross Barkley, Todd Cantwell, Weston McKennie, Nahita Nandez and Boubacar Kamara, but The Mirror insists none are being targeted.
Orta is keeping the identities of his targets under close wraps, but he can be expected to get some of the best players in on temporary or permanent moves.
A potential relegation battle remains very much in the picture if Leeds do not start picking up points, and how they fare in the transfer window could have a huge say on which division they will be in next season.
Dropping down to the Championship is the last thing the west Yorkshire outfit want, and it is why Orta will be keen to get in players that can help change their fortunes on the pitch in the coming days.
