Olivier Dacourt shares his prediction on Bielsa’s Leeds United future

Former Leeds United favourite Olivier Dacourt has given his verdict on Marcelo Bielsa’s future at Elland Road with doubt cast over him staying beyond this season.

The 66-year-old signed another additional one year deal at the beginning of this season but he is yet to commit his future to the club beyond the end of next season.

Dacourt, who played for Leeds United when they reached the Champions League semi-final in 2000-01, thinks fans will find out his decision soon.

“He’s been in Leeds for three years, he’s never spent so much time at one club, which is a positive sign,” the 47-year-old said to 101 Great Goals.

“Ultimately, you never know what’s going on in someone’s head but I think we’ll know either way after the World Cup.”

Set up for someone else

At 66 years of age, Bielsa probably doesn’t have many years left in his managerial career, no matter how impressive his squatting prowess is on the sidelines.

The way he has built a side that works so hard for each other and then blended in some of the club’s most talented youngsters has caught the eye this season.

Even if 15th in the Premier League isn’t hitting the same heights as they did last season, it is still survival and their latest win against West Ham has seen them pull a relieving gap to those behind them.

Now though, maybe it is time that someone else takes the reigns at Elland Road to try and push this group of payers to the next level.

There is only so far that Bielsa can take Leeds United and if he were to go, every single Whites fan would be forever thankful for the work he has done in Yorkshire.
