Oli McBurnie makes Dan James jibe over Leeds United social media post

Sheffield United striker Oli McBurnie has fired a joke at Dan James after the Leeds United ace shared a heartfelt post via social media.

The 26-year-old Welshman experienced one of his best seasons in a club shirt, notching 13 goals and six assists in the Championship before injury saw the end of his club campaign dwindle.

He did, however, regain enough fitness to feature in the Championship play-off final as Leeds lost 1-0 to Southampton, seeing one of his efforts agonisingly rebound off the crossbar.

Taking to Instagram on Tuesday (4 June), James thanked the passionate fans at Elland Road after a “tough” season, to which McBurnie replied: “Stop running into people really fast mate.”

This comes after James clashed heads with Kyle Walker-Peters in the final, with both receiving treatment and bandages around their heads.

Dan James enjoys sensational season with Leeds United

With 20 goal contributions in 40 Championship appearances this season, James will be able to hold his head high after the Whites missed out on promotion to the Premier League.

Of course, the overriding emotion at Elland Road is disappointment, but the winger did all he could to help Leeds this season, even racing back to full fitness for the play-off final and posing one of the biggest threats.

McBurnie is not likely to have much to laugh about himself, having been relegated from the Premier League with Sheffield United this season, finishing bottom of the table with 16 points and 104 goals conceded.

James, on the other hand, could be a player that helps fire Leeds back to the top of the Championship table, with Daniel Farke expected to achieve promotion at the second time of asking.

The club are set to lose many major stars this summer, though there has been little speculation around James’ future, other than Southampton reportedly being interested in his services.

In other Leeds United news, Don Goodman has made a promotion prediction if a certain Daniel Farke development plays out.
