‘Oh gosh’ – Pundit issues Leeds United sack verdict as Brendan Rodgers tipped to replace Daniel Farke
Leeds United should be ready to give Daniel Farke more time as manager with Brendan Rodgers’ name circulating as a replacement, Robbie Mustoe has said.
Leeds were beaten 3-2 at Man City despite coming back from two down to level at the weekend, making it four defeats on the spin for the Whites.
Farke is facing sack pressure, and Leeds could get rid of him if he fails to win either of his next two fixtures against Chelsea and Liverpool.
Two former Celtic league winners in Rodgers and Ange Postecoglou are both said to be in the frame to take over at Elland Road, but Mustoe isn’t convinced a change needs to be made.
Leeds United told to give Farke more time
Speaking to fellow NBC pundit Robbie Earle on their The 2 Robbies Podcast the former Middlesbrough midfielder advocated for the German to remain in place with Premier League survival still well within reach.
Mustoe’s view of the current situation was: “I just sometimes think these guys are fired a bit too early. I’d love to see Daniel Farke… because I know his record in the Premier League, it’s relegations and it’s easy ‘let’s get somebody else in’.
“Unless there’s a really good candidate that’s ready and able to take over straight away that’d be a good fit, I say stick for a little bit. They’re not out of touch, they’re absolutely not out of touch.”
Earle then dropped in: “There’s this name. Brendan Rodgers‘ name has been mentioned.”
“Oh gosh,” Mustoe reacted.
Earle finished: “I know, but you think well Brendan Rodgers, there’s his quality and what he’s done in the past. We’ll see.”

Rodgers could be loved or hated at Leeds
As things stand right now the Whites could do a lot worse than Rodgers as it pertains to staying in the Premier League, given his own track record in the English top flight with Liverpool and Leicester is far superior to Farke’s.
But whether the 49ers will be convinced he is the man they want to work with is another matter, since he has shown throughout his career he will leave a club in a messy way if it suits him.
The Whites owners’ presence alongside Andrew Cavenagh in charge at Rangers will have given them a clearer view of Rodgers’ being lambasted on the way out of Celtic for a second time last month, with Dermot Desmond scathing in his public criticism afterwards.
Squabbling behind the scenes over transfers at Parkhead contributed to the relationship souring, and if the Northern Irishman is to arrive at Leeds ahead of the January transfer window he will surely have been promised substantial backing in the market.
