‘Not sure if the players want it’ – BBC journo shares glimpse at new addition inside Elland Rd
Leeds United are trying to generate an atmosphere for home games by placing speakers around Elland Road.
BBC Radio Leeds journalist Adam Pope has shared an image on his personal Twitter account which shows a speaker in one of the stands and Marching On Together is expected to be blasted out when Leeds players walk onto the pitch against Fulham next week.
However, Pope has added that the Leeds players might not be a fan of the idea.
He said: “They’ve been testing out the possibility of using crowd noise… Not sure if the players want it, to be honest. Can’t be the real thing.”
You can understand why Leeds have done this because it must be weird for the players to walk out into an empty stadium.
Leeds versus Fulham next week is a massive match and one that Elland Road would have been bouncing for.
Unfortunately, that will no longer happen with all of Leeds’ remaining home matches set to be played behind closed doors due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The players might not be a fan of the speakers around Elland Road but it has to be better than an eerie silence.
Leeds’ home support has played a vital role at times this season and not having the motivation of the 12th man is going to be hard to get over.
But, at the same time, you always don’t have the pressure from the weight of expectation.
It’s a tough one to say whether or not the empty stadium will help or hinder Leeds but Marcelo Bielsa’s men are a professional bunch who should not be fazed.
