‘Not good enough’ – John Terry rages at what he saw in Leeds win vs Chelsea
John Terry was furious with what he saw from Chelsea as they fell to a defeat against Leeds.
Jaka Bijol opened the scoring as Leeds coasted to a 3-1 victory over Chelsea on Wednesday, in what was only their fourth victory of the season.
Things could have gone from bad to worse for Chelsea, with Estevao fortunate to escape a red card for a challenge on Gabriel Gudmundsson.
However, their performance is what caught the eye of Terry, and he was less than impressed.
Chelsea slammed for performance vs Leeds
If Leeds are to avoid relegation, their home form is going to be crucial to that success.
While there have been some poor results at home, Elland Road has still been a fortress this season, and it is evidently one of the hardest places to go and get a result.
Chelsea, Newcastle and Bournemouth have all failed to win in Leeds‘ backyard, though Wednesday’s win against the Blues is only the third time that Leeds have picked up three points.
Leeds’ stats vs Chelsea
- 29% possession
- 2.79 xG
- 17 shots
- Two big chances
- 186 completed passes
However, it was certainly a deserved win, with Terry fuming at the performance levels showcased by Chelsea.
“What a poor performance that was,” Terry said via his TikTok. “Everything I said about Leeds away, they were going to be aggressive, fans were going to be up for it, it was going to be a hostile place to go.
“You either go there and match them, or you take the sting out of it completely, and by the looks of it, we certainly didn’t do that in the first half.
“You need to go there and show the fight, match Leeds in every single way and then earn your right to play. After 15, 20 minutes, you play your football once you’ve earned that right.
“Set piece, individual mistakes defensively, clearly not good enough.”
What did Enzo Maresca say after Leeds victory?
Quite often, when a newly promoted team pulls off a shock result as Leeds did against Chelsea, the opposition manager is condescending.
However, Enzo Maresca accepted that the Whites were the better team on the night, with his quotes shared by the Yorkshire Evening Post after the game.
“I think they were better than us in all aspects; they deserved to win the game,” said Maresca.
“When you come here, away against any team, if you don’t perform at 100 per cent, the Premier League is tough. When you play, again the last two against Barcelona and Arsenal, you expect a better performance, no doubt.“
