Leeds United have found themselves in the relegation zone ahead of Sunday’s trip to Norwich City, and leaving Carrow Road with all three points has become paramount.
Burnley’s win over Brentford on Saturday saw the Whites slip down to 18th in the Premier League table, and that should serve as much-needed motivation in their search for their second win of the campaign.
Norwich are yet to win a league game so far this term, drawing two of their nine fixtures, and they will be giving their all against a Leeds side that have not exactly impressed so far in 2021-22.
Ahead of the six-pointer, we spoke to @AdamBrandon84, a Norwich City fan and South American football writer to gauge the mood amongst the opposition supporters.
What have you made of Leeds so far this season?
As I’m based in Chile, I love Marcelo Bielsa, but I expected Leeds to drop off this season, especially when I see that they didn’t really improve the squad depth.
Obviously, they’ve been unlucky with injuries too, but the second season is often a tricky one.
Who will cause you the biggest issues?
I’m worried about Raphinha. If he’s fit and he’s up against Brandon Williams, then I imagine Leeds will win comfortably.
Kalvin Phillips back in the midfield will obviously help too.
What have you made of your season so far?
I thought we’d get relegated, but I can’t say that I knew it would be quite this bad.
It is the bleakest looking Premier League season in my lifetime.
I watch other games and teams, and everybody just looks harder, better, faster, stronger, as Daft Punk once said.
Who should Leeds watch out for?
As negative as I am about our team and tactics this season, we do have some good players.
Mathias Normann in midfield has probably been our best player this season. His energy and long passing ability could be key.
Teemu Pukki isn’t as dangerous at this level, but if you’d pick anyone to score us a goal, it would be him.
Christos Tzolis is one many fans would love to see start.
Is Daniel Farke likely to make any big changes to the side?
We are all waiting to find this out. I doubt there will be any sign of Todd Cantwell, though, who it appears he has fallen out with, sadly.
He could well go back to four at the back with Ben Gibson suspended.
Some are hoping this means the likes of Billy Gilmour and Tzolis are in the mix, but Milot Rashica feels more likely than the latter at the moment. After a 7-0, anything is possible.
Are there any particular weak links in the Norwich side you fear may get exposed?
If Williams starts at left-back, then I’d target him.
We are quite weak in midfield transitions, so if Leeds are on it, they should win.
Score prediction/what type of game will we see?
I’m expecting quite an open game with both sides struggling to take their chances.
I actually had a funny feeling this would be our first win of the season for a while, but I’m much less confident after last week. 2-1 Norwich, my heart says just to end on a positive.
In other Leeds United news, Whites staff have been left thrilled as Bielsa funds behind-the-scenes development at Elland Road.
