‘Nobody is bigger than the club’, ‘Big risk’ – Many Leeds fans react to Hay update on key player

Leeds United fans have been reacting on Twitter after The Athletic journalist Phil Hay reported that Ben White is increasingly unlikely to be at Elland Road next season.

White, 22, has been fantastic for Leeds since joining the Yorkshire giants on a season-long loan from Brighton in the summer transfer window.

The centre-back has played every minute of every Championship match for Marcelo Bielsa and his impressive performances have led to speculation surrounding his future at both Leeds and Brighton.

Of course, Leeds would want to sign White permanently in the summer but that would depend on them winning promotion from the Championship.

However The Athletic has previously reported that Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United are all keen on the Elland Road loan star.

Speaking in the latest episode of the Phil Hay Show podcast, the ex-Yorkshire Evening Post journalist detailed just how unlikely it is that Leeds will be able to wrap up a new deal for White in the next transfer window.

He said: “The more I speak to Leeds about White, the more I sense a kind of resignation about him staying here for a second year.

he’s got are tailor-made for a top-six club to have a go if they’ve got the money.

“They would love to keep him and they will certainly try if they do go up.

“There’s no doubt at all that Bielsa has had a huge impact on him, but, ironically, the effect of Bielsa’s impact is going to be that he’s now such a prospect, and looks good in so many respects, that Leeds probably won’t be able to compete.”

It is not the best of news for Leeds fans but, unfortunately, it is expected based on how well White has played this season.

But that hasn’t stopped some fans from suggesting that the defender would be making a mistake by leaving Elland Road for one of the top Premier League clubs.

In other Leeds United news, Elland Road could look very different once fans are allowed back into the stadium.
