Nigel Reo-Coker reacts to major controversy in Leeds United loss v Arsenal

Nigel Reo-Coker has described the referee’s decision to change his mind regarding Gabriel’s red card as “comical” as Leeds United lost 1-0 against the Gunners.

Towards the end of the game, Gabriel appeared to have fouled Patrick Bamford in the box. The referee initially gave it a penalty, while Gabriel was given the marching orders.

However, after a check on the pitch-side monitor, he changed his decision. There was no penalty, no red card, and a free-kick was awarded to the Gunners.

“Send them off both. It’s comical at best,” said Reo-Coker on BBC Radio Football Daily (16 October).

“The worst thing about it is that it looks worse when you slow it down. Gabriel is just looking at Bamford, and waiting to initiate the contact.

“Then Gabriel falls down. It’s not natural. He sticks his legs out, and knows exactly what he is doing. Bamford kind of jumps on to him. So comical, it’s just embarrassing.”

Poor run continues

This is a game that the Whites shouldn’t have lost. They deserved something from this game.

They made an electrifying start and created some brilliant goalscoring opportunities.

Bamford missed a penalty while another goal was disallowed.

Having said that the Whites need to cut down on silly individual errors. Arsenal didn’t create enough clear-cut opportunities but they got that breakthrough, after some poor work Rodrigo.

The experienced forward has let Jesse Marsch down. Without looking anywhere, he tried an audacious pass, and it made really no sense at all.

It didn’t come as a surprise that Marsch took him off at half-time. Leeds still could have salvaged a draw but Bamford couldn’t hit the target from the spot.

The winless run continues. Despite playing well, Leeds find themselves in a precarious position once again.

They have now suffered back-to-back defeats. They are winless in their last six games in the Premier League, and find themselves 15th in the league table.

In other Leeds United news, Leeds staff at Thorp Arch are stunned by a development for this player while Phil Hay shared a contract update on him.
