Nicolo Zaniolo to Bournemouth collapses after Leeds United loan offer despite Roma mediation
Nicolo Zaniolo had chosen Bournemouth over Leeds United but his deadline day move was derailed amid attitude concerns, Calcio Mercato claims.
The Italian international had offers from Elland Road and Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, but chose the Cherries’ terms.
The 23-year-old was then absent without leave from Roma training on Tuesday (31 January), believing he was now set for the south coast of England, but his club hadn’t reached an agreement with any of the interested sides.
That move appears to have contributed to the collapse of his move to the Vitality, with Calcio Mercato‘s report stating: “Nicoló’s attitude had a bearing on Bournemouth’s refusal , Roma tried to mediate but it was too late.”
Financial reasons after spending heavily this month, and the addition of Hamed Traore, saw the Premier League side back out, and Zaniolo is currently in line to be stuck in Rome where he is out in the cold.
Leeds United could return with another offer, but it hinges on Jack Harrison‘s potential exit to Leicester.

If the Foxes come up with a big new bid in the final hours then the Whites could come back in for Zaniolo and rescue him from the corner he has found himself backed into in Italy.
The ball is firmly in Leicester’s court on that with Leeds apparently content to hold onto the winger despite his transfer value depreciating.
Zaniolo clearly wants out of the Stadio Olimpico and Jose Mourinho has made clear that he can go, but it looks like he might have jumped the gun on the final day of the window.
Perhaps it was desperation to get out a bad situation, or perhaps there really are concerns over his attitude, but it doesn’t seem like a move that Victor Orta needs to go chasing.
There are plenty of attacking options in Jesse Marsch’s squad and unless Roma are willing to let him go on a cheap loan with an option it looks like one that will overcomplicate an unexpectedly strong January window.
If nothing else happens before 11pm then most supporters will be satisfied, with only the addition of an extra defender still on the list of some.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are now set to bank a surprise profit as the technicalities of their late deal emerge.
