Next Leeds United owners have decision to make as Steven Gerrard manager news emerges
Steven Gerrard is on the radar of the potential new owners of Leeds United, according to a report in the Sun.
The former Liverpool and England midfielder has been out of work since being sacked by Aston Villa in October, having previously won the Scottish Premiership as boss of Rangers.
Leeds were relegated on Sunday (May 28) and the club’s owner Andrea Radrizzani has since been confirmed as the head of a group who have agreed a deal to purchase Serie A club Sampdoria.

Radrizzani is still reportedly in talks to sell his remaining shares in Leeds to the owners of the San Francisco 49ers.
The Sun’s Charlie Wyatt noted that Gerrard is seen as a potential candidate to take over at Leeds if that deal concludes, as has former Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers, though the report says he may not be keen on dropping into the Championship.
Speaking in February 2022, Gerrard had described the prospect of going up against then Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa as “fascinating”.

Gerrard not the answer for Leeds
There are several pieces of the Leeds United jigsaw that need to be put together in the coming weeks.
Naturally, the most immediate and significant of those decisions is in the boardroom. If Radrizzani is going to have his hands tied at Sampdoria, a club relegated to Serie B next season, then really the right thing to do is give Leeds fans their wishes and sell up.
Beyond that, though, a replacement will be needed for Victor Orta to take control of football operations, and of course decisions will need to be made on player sales and signings.
And amid all that, Leeds need to find a solution in the dugout. Sam Allardyce’s four-game reign failed to save the club from the drop and, although some reports suggest the current crop would be open to Allardyce remaining in place next term, surely a new man will be appointed.
But, after his hugely underwhelming spell at Villa where plenty of money was spent on the first-time squad, Gerrard is not the right option for Leeds.
In other Leeds news, talkSPORT pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor did not hold back in his criticism of Weston McKennie.
